Closed in August 2009 by the Detroit Public School system, the Detroit Children’s Museum reopened on June 26 after being purchased by the Detroit Science Center.  The museum, the nation’s third oldest museum for children, houses over 100,000 artifacts, from dinosaur bones to ancient costumes and dolls collected from around the world.  Since January, the Detroit Science Center has been working in conjunction with DPS to update the museum’s exhibits and bring several displays from the archives to the main floor.  In addition to its vast collection, the Detroit Children’s Museum also features a “touch the stars” planetarium along with hands-on art and activity stations.  $4 for adults and $2 for children, includes one planetarium show.  Hours are Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.  6134 Second Ave, Detroit.  For more information, 313-873-8100/www.detroitsciencecenter.org.
