Michigan Children’s Book Author Embarks On International Speaking Tour

Everyone wants a better life for our kids and the urgency of addressing their social-emotional needs has never been greater. Michigan Author, Cindy Williams Schrauben is partnering with Cardinal Rule Press (CRP), a children’s book publisher out of Wixom, Michigan, to do just that. Maria Dismondy of CRP has purchased Bucket Fillers Books (BFB) which began nearly 20 years ago.

Williams Schrauben and other speakers are embarking on an international tour which will  enhance the BFB program by combining it with the Golden Rule mission of CRP. Her recently published picture book, THIS COULD BE YOU, which focuses on empowering kids with a growth mindset will add another dimension to these interactive school presentations.

Bucket FIller Books has assisted over 3000 schools in creating a culture of kindness and acceptance in the U.S., China, Canada, and Australia. Williams Schrauben will also draw on her own experience as an educator.

The Bucket Fillers presentations began in 2005 when Carol McCloud wrote the book, Have You Filled a Bucket Today. This book (and the ten that followed) uses the analogy of an invisible bucket which holds one’s happiness.

Williams Schrauben said,“The BFB phenomenon and the Golden Rule mission of CRP is the perfect marriage. I feel that children have a natural desire to be kind – some just need extra guidance. Building these values in children is a crucial step in strengthening our society. The opportunity to meld these principles with the Growth Mindset message in my own picture book, THIS COULD BE YOU, was a no-brainer.

A Growth Mindset is the belief that we can improve upon our natural abilities and talents – perseverance and self-confidence are key. Literature can play a huge part in ensuring that children grow up with a healthy, happy outlook. Yes, books should be fun, but they can also inform and help to introduce difficult subjects. The trick is to accomplish both. Oftentimes, it is easier for kids to relate to the struggles of a book character than to deal with their own. Reading together is a great way to introduce sensitive topics and begin tough discussions.

I will begin my tour in September – reduced rates are available for schools within the state of Michigan. New dates are being added every week and exciting new stops should be announced soon. I will also be in attendance at the Kerrytown Bookfest in Ann Arbor, the Funky Ferndale Art Fair (both in September), and the Ann Arbor Holiday Fair in December.  I can’t wait to share this newly expanded program with kids everywhere. ”
