Book clubs can be a great way to provide quality literature, community, and fun for your child. Luckily, several libraries and businesses offer book club events over the summer. Below, discover the right fit for the teen/tween in your life.
Tween Book Club at the Dexter District Library
For a traditional book club experience, children 5th-6th grade can register for the Dexter District Library. According to the website, participants can read a new book each month (provided at the youth reference desk) and then join together for “ice breakers, discussion, and a fun activity.”

Tween Graphic Novel Book Club at the Saline District Library
The Saline District Library offers monthly experiences for tween readers. Students in 4th-8th grade who enjoy visual arts are invited to join the Graphic Novel Book Club where they will discuss the art and plot while engaging in themed activities. Books are available at the youth desk for four weeks before the book club meeting.

Tween Writing Club at the Saline District Library
If you are also interested in writing, The Saline District Library also provides a Tween Writing Club. Whether you are writing poetry, fiction, autobiography, or other genres, the library invites you to join with other creative tweens to share work, provide feedback and tips, and continue to improve your work. This group is intended for students in 4th-8th grade.

Teen Book Club at Literati
Literati Bookstore has introduced its inaugural book club event. This event will feature the book “My Last Kiss” and will be attended by the author Bethany Neal. This event is focused on teens aged 13+ and will include discussion, participation by Neal, and refreshments. For those participating, the book will be available for purchase with a 15% discount beginning on June 10.

Teen Graphic Novel Book Club at the Plymouth District Library
The Plymouth District Library also offers a Graphic Novel Book Club, this one appropriate for teenagers. These meetings will take place every other month and will include engaging discussions and activities. Interested in starting your own tween or teen book club? The Plymouth District Library also offers “Books by the Stack” which include several copies of popular books so that you might discuss them with friends.
