Marsh View Meadows Park recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate their latest additions to the community. The Pittsfield Township park, located at 300 E. Textile Road has added new gym and playground equipment for families that are looking to combine fitness with fun. Pittsfield Parks and Recreation members were on hand to greet residents, along with Pittsfield Township police and firefighters who were also in attendance.

“We’ve been developing this playground and outdoor gym for the last few years,” said Rich Wade, the interim parks and rec director. “It’s been a lot of hard work, and the park commission had a lot of planning with staff. And now it’s just a celebration. From what I see today, the residents are enjoying themselves and having a good time.”

Kemper Sosa with Applied Fitness Solutions was on hand to talk to residents about the ways they can incorporate these new structures into their fitness routines.
“I was graced with the honor to show people how to use the equipment through a demo,” Sosa said.
New walkways and landscaped beds lead to the newest addition, and signage has been installed to show individuals how to properly use the equipment as well.
“I think the community needs more accessible places to do movement outdoors in particular,” Sosa said. “ A lot of research shows that it drives not just physical health but mental health as well. I think it’s going to provide mental health benefits and physical health benefits, and it’s going to get families together. This is a net positive.”

Mia Herd, community development coordinator, was passing out free cups, notebooks, frisbees and buff bands to visitors who stopped by her table. She said she was happy to see the many families that came out to see the park’s updates, which had been in the works for several years.
“It was an idea that came from our park commission during COVID to get more people outside and moving, but in a way where you didn’t have to be in close quarters. It took a little bit to get it all together, but everyone is out there enjoying it and it’s been a great addition to the park, she said.”.

The park may be partnering with Applied Fitness Solutions in the future to offer instructional classes. In addition to the playground, the ADA accessible park also offers a pavilion, biking trails, walking and hiking trails and a t-ball field.
