After a week of cooking at home, we treated ourselves to a night out to eat at a local Japanese restaurant, Biwako Sushi in Saline.
This was not our first time at Biwako, in fact, it is one of those restaurants that we find ourselves frequenting because of their affordable prices, large portions, quick service and delicious menu.

Biwako opened at 1355 E. Michigan Ave. in 2006 by Andy Kwon. In 2025 Jinhan Jun took over ownership.
We enjoyed sides of miso soup and ginger salad before our entrees were delivered, as well as an order of edamame.

The edamame was mainly ordered for my 2-year-old, who notoriusly is not a fan of green on her plate. However, recently she was been enjoying green beans…but just the inside beans. One day, when I was splitting open her tenth green pea pod at dinner, I had the relaization that she might enjoy edamame. Not only are the inner beans bigger, but the pods are much easier to open. It felt like a mom-win when she kept reaching for the edamame throughout the meal.

For my main course, I ordered the Black Jack roll. This specialty sushi roll has everything I wish for in a roll: spicy crab, avocado and cucumber, topped with salmon, tuna and spicy sauce. This filling roll was the perfect combination of fresh and spicy.
We also ordered the Spicy Ramyun w/ Chicken. The portion was large enough to share, and even take home some leftovers. The rich, spicy both is the perfect comfort food—brightened up with fresh toppings.Â
Biwako’s kids meal is one of the best I have encountered in the area. For $8.99, you can choose two of nine options. The portions are huge for a kids meal, so we always have enough to take home for leftovers for the next 2 days.

The options are 1/2 edamame, 3 pieces of vege gyoza, rice and miso soup, 1/2 grilled chicken, 2 pieces of pork gyoza, 1/2 udon noodle, 1/2 seaweed salad, 1/2 California roll and 8 pieces of cucumber roll. We opted for the udon and the grilled chicken. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that the grilled chicken is actually a stir fry with vegetables. My daughter seemed to love every part of her meal, and enjoyed it the next day for lunch.
The bottom line
If you are looking for a relaxed dining experience with high quality food and big portions, I will always reccommend Biwako. It is right by the Emagine Theater, so it might be fun to make a night out of it and see a movie—even though you will probably be too full for popcorn.
