The Center runs a variety of classes, including making clay cone animals and clay fairy doors for all ages. Some teen classes feature a class on studio screen printing, and for all ages, they feature polymer animals and clay toadstool fairy houses. Classes begin at $35 and include all supplies–register on the website. They offer art parties for your child’s special occasion. Currently they’re only open during class hours.

Ann Arbor Rec and Ed

Rec & Ed has heaps of after-school classes starting at the end of March. Want your child to learn breakdance, chess, Spanish, Indian Tabla drumming, science, playwriting and theater, or nature navigation? There are classes every day of the week, and on weekends you can choose from activities such as making sushi or chocolate cupcakes in flower pots. They also offer a variety of camps throughout the summer and holiday breaks. Class series start at $79 and scholarships are available.

Creatopia Pottery

For $6 + the price of the pottery they choose, your child can come to Creatopia and learn how to paint and glaze their own piece! Typical hours are 12-5. Tuesdays are half off–your child’s studio fee is only $3 this day! Their birthday party package, at $200 for up to 10 children, includes painting pottery and celebrations for 2 hours.

SCRAP Creative Reuse

Want to do crafts at home for an economic price? SCRAP’s nonprofit mission is to: “inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community.” Find your art, craft, school, or office supplies here! Post-COVID, they are still in the process of starting up classes. For birthday parties, they offer “craft outings” for up to 5 people, choosing from 3 projects, and session prices include all materials for 1.5 hours.

Whitepine Studios 

Kaili Dence, BFA, with a concentration in painting and drawing, from UM and studied figure drawing and fresco painting at SACI College of Art and Design in Florence, Italy teaches to focus on the fundamentals of art and design in a fun and supportive environment. For younger children, the focus is on process rather than production and we encourage the exploration of art materials, creativity, flexibility and originality. Whitepine provides art instruction for ages 4 – 94 including painting pARTies in our studio or at Dan’s Tavern in Saline, physical and online art gallery featuring local Michigan artists, and a mobile art studio (where we travel to home schools, senior living communities, and special needs learning groups).

The Bee’s Knees

Book a field trip for your kid’s party or special day to explore pottery painting, handbuilding with clay, mosaic, or canvas painting! Prices start at $10/person, and they can book up to 50 people, so this is also a fun option for your child’s class at school. Field trips are available during business hours on select days of the week. They also offer art kits to-go!

Young Rembrandt’s

Want your child to engage in art at home, but you would enjoy more structured guidance? Young Rembrandt’s online structured classes may be just the thing for you. With themed workshops, classes geared toward preschool or elementary, cartoon workshops, and drawing on demand (you choose your own pace), there’s a class for any budding artist. If you’re open to driving, they have after-school in-person class offerings in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb.
