Throw Ann Arbor: An Exciting and Artistic Addition to the Ann Arbor Community

Throw Ann Arbor is “where creativity meets community.” In other words, Throw is a space where people can explore their own creative expression right in the Ann Arbor area. With a plethora of artistic options, such as wheel throwing, hand building and pottery painting, Throw has something for all ages.

Owner Jeremy Tracey states that providing new opportunities to the community was an inspiration for founding Throw Ann Arbor.

Tracey said, “I want it to be a place where people who have never done pottery before to have a space to try it…a mission of Throw is to make pottery more accessible to everyone.”

Tracey points out that many people may be interested in creating pottery, but may not have access to the necessary materials, which can be expensive. They may also want to try out a pottery class without making a large commitment. In both cases, and for more serious potters, Throw can help!

History of Throw Ann Arbor

Throw Ann Arbor has been growing and developing over the last few years. When Jeremy Tracey graduated with a degree in business from University of Michigan in 2021, he found himself seeking something more creative and artistic than many jobs in business could offer.

Tracey refreshed his own skills in pottery, then began offering private lessons, before taking the leap to open Throw Ann Arbor. Since its opening, Throw has become an increasingly vibrant part of the community with many exciting options for patrons to try.

“I’m grateful for the reception we’ve had — I think we’ll have a good home here for quite a long time,” Tracey said.

Opportunities to learn

Throw truly has options for all ages. Those looking for a family experience might consider joining the Parent & Child Lessons. These lessons are kept to 4 people (two children and two adults) and can be held with even young children. Even children under the age of 10 can explore wheel throwing due to the small class size, extra help from the instructions, and hands-on experience.

Another option for all ages is pottery painting, which is available on a walk-in basis during any open hours. The painting is supervised for youngers artists and is a fun option for family time, spending time with friends, and even date night. They also cater to work events and parties. In fact, Throw Ann Arbor is located at a café and bar, you can make your pottery experience part of a larger night/day out!

Throw Ann Arbor also caters to all levels of commitment. They offer one-time lessons, monthly courses each month, and longer-term memberships available for those who would like more consistent use of the wheels and clay.

You could also purchase pottery for your loved ones, as each piece is homemade right in the studio so that each piece in uniquely beautiful.
