Iggy’s Eggies: A New Ann Arbor Favorite for Breakfast/Lunch Lovers

Iggy’s Eggies, 611 East Liberty St., opened last summer and has quickly become a beloved spot among the Ann Arbor community.

“We opened in June of 2024, and the city has welcomed us with open arms,” Owner Eli Boyer said. “Students, faculty, Ann Arbor residents and office workers alike.”

Boyer describes his establishment as family-friendly, offering a welcoming space for all ages.

“Kids love our egg sandwiches, smash burgers, hash browns, French toast sticks and fresh-squeezed orange juice,” Boyer said. “Our space and seating is comfortable for children of any age.”

Inside, guests can choose to sit along a row with a direct view of the kitchen or an opposite window row that overlooks the bustling sidewalk. The name “Iggy’s Eggies” has a personal touch, originating from a family brainstorming session.

“My daughter, who was four at the time, came up with it,” Boyer said. “We wanted to give it a person’s name that worked well with the word ‘Eggie,’ which is what we call our egg sandwiches. My wife, daughter and I were at home rattling off a bunch of names, but when she offered ‘Iggy’s’, we knew it was the right choice.”

“Our Ann Arbor guests love the ‘Iggycado,’ which is an egg sandwich with a jammy-yolk egg, baby Swiss cheese, mashed avocado, marinated tomato, arugula and Iggy Sauce on an English Muffin,” Boyer said.

During our visit, we tried the Iggycado — also recommended by another employee — and it was an impressive blend of flavors. The egg was perfectly cooked with a warm, runny yolk, and the tangy Iggy Sauce complemented the fresh ingredients beautifully.

To sample more of the menu, we also ordered a smash burger, fried chicken sandwich and breakfast burrito, all of which were delicious and reasonably priced. A couple of glasses of fresh-squeezed orange juice rounded out the meal perfectly.

Boyer said the decision to open in Ann Arbor was a natural one.

“We have long felt that the affordability, quickness and customizability of our food would work well in a college town, and due to my connection to Ann Arbor, I could never imagine opening first in a place other than the University of Michigan,” Boyer said.

Having grown up in Farmington Hills and attended the University of Michigan, Boyer also met his wife in Ann Arbor, where he pursued his entrepreneurial dreams.

“I always knew I wanted to do something here in Ann Arbor,” Boyer said.

Despite its early success, the restaurant has faced challenges, including the rising cost of eggs.

“It has been pretty difficult on our business,” Boyer said. “We are taking it day-by-day but are focusing more on long-term solutions to solidifying our egg supply. The usual vendor-restaurant relationship is not working regarding ordering eggs, so we need to find a forward-thinking partner — such as a local egg farm or collective — who can be a key relationship in our growth.”

With its welcoming atmosphere, creative menu, and strong local ties, Iggy’s Eggies has already made a lasting impression in Ann Arbor’s food scene. Whether you’re a student grabbing a quick bite or a family looking for a cozy breakfast spot, it’s worth a visit.
