Ann Arbor Civic Theater’s Junior Theatre will be putting on Disney’s “Frozen Jr.” at Arthur Miller Theatre from March 14-16. The 60-minute musical is based on the 2013 film and 2018 musical and is designed for young actors. The cast includes fourteen local youth actors directed by Denyse Clayton and Sara Bathool. The shorter runtime allows for a fast paced, lively performance that is sure to keep younger audiences in their seats. “I’m just looking forward to seeing the faces on the little kids when all the magic happens,” said Clayton, “because it’s going to happen right in front of them.”

“It’s still as magical,” said Olive Kessenich, who plays Elsa, “but I feel like the extra songs almost make it more alive.”
Through weeks of rehearsal, the cast has been able to hone their performances and add life to their characters. The young actors have grown into their roles wonderfully according to their directors, making their performances all the more heartfelt and authentic. Their enthusiasm is sure to captivate all who watch; audiences can expect a lively and heartfelt interpretation of this beloved musical through the vessel of these incredible performers.
“I love their lack of inhibition,” said Clayton, “they let down their guard and become their character – it’s amazing.”
Something that shines through beautifully in this production is collaboration. Each person plays a vital role in bringing the story to life, both on and off the stage. The cast and crew work together to seamlessly transport Ann Arborites to Arendelle for the duration of the show.
“The community spirit that comes through when people get together for theater is amazing,” said Bathool. “We have so many parents helping us with the production and I’m just so in awe and so glad we have people who are so collaborative.”
