Get ready to experience the magic of The Nutcracker in Ann Arbor this December! Presented by iBallet, the iconic holiday ballet will be performed at the Power Center on Friday, December 6, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, December 7, at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets are now on sale, with special Early Bird pricing available for the opening night.
iBallet’s production of “The Nutcracker” features over 75 dancers — most under the age of 18 — this year’s show will bring Clara’s magical journey to life, including the holiday party scene, the Nutcracker’s battle with mice, and the enchanted lands of snowflakes, sweets and flowers.

A showcase of young talent and professional dancers
Since 2018, iBallet’s “The Nutcracker” has grown into a cherished annual tradition in Ann Arbor. This year’s production showcases young performers, over 200 handmade costumes, Guest professional dancers, 75 props and over 5,000 hours of rehearsal.
The show’s blend of youth and professional dancers creates a dynamic performance, while the intricate costumes and elaborate stage design transport audiences into the whimsical world of the ballet.
The History and Tradition of “The Nutcracker”
Composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreographed by Marius Petipa, “The Nutcracker” premiered in 1892 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story “The Mouse King,” the ballet quickly became a holiday tradition around the world. Its first complete U.S. performance occurred on Christmas Eve, 1944, in San Francisco, and it has since become a staple of the Christmas season.
