Chelsea District Library Hosts Halloween Costume Exchange

Halloween is an exciting time for kids! The spooky decorations, delicious apple and pumpkin treats and beautiful fall colors can be a lot of fun. But for many children, the best part of Halloween is choosing and wearing their costumes! After all, what would Halloween parties and trick-or-treating be without ghosts, ghouls and Barbies enjoying their holiday?

Yet, picking Halloween costumes can be tricky and can add holiday stress to parents. Costumes can be expensive or hard to find. Sometimes it’s just hard to decide which one to choose!

This October, the Chelsea District Library is seeking to solve these problems through its Halloween Costume Exchange event. During this event, which runs through the month of October, families are welcome to bring in their old Halloween costumes to exchange for “new” gently used ones. This allows families to clear out costumes their children no longer need while also finding an exciting new costume for this Halloween.

According to the library’s Twitter account, the exchange already boasts a variety of costume choices from superheroes to animals, tutus, and more!

The costume exchange has taken place for several years now, with librarians calling it a well-loved program.

The racks at the event often include a large variety of types and sizes, with options for different ages and interests. These costumes have been a valuable resource for local families.

Participate in the costume exchange

For families interested in the exchange, there are a few guidelines to keep in mind. Donated costumes should be in good condition. This means that costumes should have no holes or visible stains. They should also be odor-free. The library also takes accessories, rather than full costumes, as well! Once you have brought in your old costumes, you can visit the first-floor information desk at the library to look through racks of costumes to choose your favorites.

No costume to donate? No problem! The Chelsea District librarians want you to know that this is not a one-to-one exchange. In other words, you are welcome to come pick out a costume without bringing a donation (and you may also drop off old costumes without taking new ones).

Although this event began on October 1, there is still time to donate and explore the different costumes! This event runs through the end of the month, meaning that it is a perfect opportunity for those seeking a last-minute option. On November 1, all unused costumes will be donated.

For more information, visit the event page or contact the Chelsea District Library at 734-475-8732. The Chelsea District Library is located at 221 S Main St Chelsea.
