Halloween is a time for decadent treats and shared childlike joy. Whether you’re handing out candy or picking out a costume this year, it’s worth considering: How can you share this fun with others in your community? Fostering Futures offers a different kind of treat: a night full of fun to support the foster and adoption system.
What is Fostering Futures?
Fostering Futures is a private, non-profit foster care and adoption agency based in Ann Arbor. Their mission is not only to pair children with loving homes, but to “provide a safe, healthy, informed and supportive environment where all people can grow and thrive.”
In 2021, Fostering Futures was recognized as in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s annual Change-Makers list, a report highlighting 119 child welfare agencies across the country who have worked with the HRC Foundation’s All Children – All Families (ACAF) program to improve the services they provide to the LGBTQ+ community, including children in foster care and prospective foster and adoptive parents. One in three children in foster care are LGBTQ+, which makes this work all the more important. More recently, Fostering Futures has been recognized yet again by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, this time as a 2025-2026 Innovator in supporting and serving LGBTQ+ youth and families.
A Halloween event sure to thrill
For the fifth year in a row, Fostering Futures is hosting a Halloween bash. Although it’s ‘for the kids,’ this party is 21+. The price of admission includes dinner catered by Aubrey’s, sweet treats from Whole Foods and Nothing Bundt Cakes, and an open bar featuring Water Tower Distilling Co. spirits. For those who like to dress up, there will be a costume contest. For those who like to boogie, there will be a live DJ with dancing.
The night will also feature an exciting array of silent auction items. Place your bid on a weekend getaway for 10 people in Fennville, wine and cider tastings included! If you’d rather head north, you might be interested in the day of wine tasting in Traverse City, also on offer during the silent auction. Families take note, too: you could win a yearlong membership at the Toledo Zoo! These are merely some of the larger items up for auction; a selection of smaller prizes also awaits.
