Looking for a way to cook up some fun this summer? Zingerman’s Cornman Farms is offering Kids Camp for A Cause, combining cooking classes with a chance to support local nonprofit organizations.
“We’re offering three sessions of Kids Camp for a Cause this summer at Zingerman’s Cornman Farms, just outside of Ann Arbor in Dexter,” said Tabitha Mason from the Cornman Farms team. “Each session runs Monday through Wednesday, from 9am to noon, and is designed for kids ages 9 to 12. The cost is $300 per 3-day session, and each week features a new menu, fun activities, and a different nonprofit partner.”
Camps are held indoors in the 1834 farmhouse, as well as outdoors in the herb gardens. Each camper will receive a custom Cornman Farms apron, full recipes and elements of the meals to share with their own families as well as families in need in the community. Campers should be able to follow directions and be comfortable using kitchen tools with supervision.

Pancake Palooza
The first camp, Pancake Palooza, will be held on July 14-16.
“At Pancake Palooza, kids learn how to make sweet and savory pancakes (plus corn dogs!) and package homemade pancake mix,” Mason said.
Pizza Party
The second camp, Pizza Party, will be held July 28-30.
“At Pizza Party, they’ll grow tomatoes and basil, make pizza dough and sauce from scratch, and assemble pizzas to share.”
Lasagna Love
The third camp, Lasagna Love, will be held August 11-13.
“At Lasagna Love, they’ll make fresh pasta and a 30+ ingredient bolognese sauce, then build full meals including lasagna, salad, and garlic bread.”
Giving back
The camps offer an immersive experience that raises awareness for local agencies while teaching practical cooking skills, showing kids how preparing food with love can be a way of giving back to the community.
“Each camp supports a local nonprofit through food donations the kids help prepare,” Mason said. This year, they will be donating to Food Gatherers, The Delonis Center, and Ronald McDonald House.
Campers will learn more about each of the non-profit organizations at camp, and Cornman Farms will deliver the meals that the campers have prepared to the local families in need.
“Kids not only gain real kitchen skills, but they also get to experience the joy of giving back,” Mason said. “We believe food is one of the most powerful ways to care for others, and this camp shows kids how they can be part of that, hands-on and from the heart.”
