Resources for Washtenaw County Families During the SNAP Freeze

With the current federal threat to SNAP benefits, many people are worried about how they’ll feed themselves or their families. The Supreme Court temporarily blocked the issuance of November SNAP Payments, and the Michigan Department Health and Human Services is required to pause benefits until the courts reevaluate.

There are some supports in Ann Arbor for people losing SNAP benefits. At least one restaurant in Ann Arbor is offering free meals, Ypsilanti’s farmer’s market is offering tokens for SNAP recipients, all children are eligible for free meals if they are Ann Arbor Public School students and there are a variety of food banks stepping up to ensure that no family and no child goes hungry.

Palm Palace

This local restaurant is offering free meals for those who lost their SNAP benefits. On their website, use the promo code 1family, or visit the store and ask for the Family Promotion meal. It’s absolutely free.

Food Gatherers.

They’re hosting emergency food distributions at 100 Briarwood Circle on November 15 and 19 from 9:30-11:30am. You’ll receive a box of produce, shelf-stable food items and milk. Use their find food map to find other opportunities for food. They have a variety of locations in Ypsi and Ann Arbor, for food pantries and for free meals. There are breakfasts, carry-out dinners and weekend meals all available–check out their website for what’s closest to you.

Grocery assistance through Community Helpers USA

Funds are limited, but you fill out this form to apply for a grocery gift card.

Pathways to Success free food distribution

This will occur Wednesday, November 12 from 4:30-5pm, first come first serve. It’ll be at Pathways to Success Academic Campus, 2800 Stone School Road. Items include a variety of fresh produce, shelf-stable items and meat.

Ypsi Market SNAP Gap

Show a valid SNAP card and you’ll receive $40 in SNAP Gap tokens, usable at Ypsi farmers markets.

Free breakfast and lunch at Ann Arbor Public Schools

ALL AAPS students can receive free breakfast and lunch at school.
