August’s 21-day Disability Equality Challenge

Registration has opened for the 21-Day Disability Equity Challenge hosted by the United Way of Washtenaw County, which was created in partnership with the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living.

The 21-Day Disability Equity Challenge is an online challenge that aims to advocate awareness for people with disabilities and their experiences living in Washtenaw County.

Starting August 1, participants who sign up for the equity challenge will receive an email every weekday through August 29 that will contain information and resources about topics related to disability education, equity and awareness. Resources such as podcasts, infographics, articles and videos will also be inside each email for participations to share.

The United Way of Washtenaw County, alongside several other United Ways across the country, started the program in 2019 with a successful rollout. A previous version of the 21-Day Equity Challenge primarily focused on racial equity resources, awareness and education.

Since 2019, the United Way of Washtenaw County has been a part of three other additional equity challenges, including a COVID-19 challenge and a challenge that was focused on Michigan.

Another part of the challenge will include community conversation events that will be centered around disability awareness and job accommodation. The first event will be held on August 15 from 10 to 11 a.m. and will feature a topic centered around defining a disability. The link to register for the conversation can be found here

The second event will be held on August 22 from 2 to 3 p.m. and will feature a topic around job accommodation and disability disclosure both ways. The link to register for the conversation can be found here.

Registration for the challenge is completely free and individuals who may be interested can register for the challenge here
