The Dexter District Library is ramping up its Summer Reading Program on Monday, June 21, at 11am. The library has planned numerous activities for a reading-filled summer!

This year’s Summer Reading Program will kick off with a virtual presentation from magician Cameron Zvara! The 45-minute show will be full of magic, card tricks, comedy, and audience participation for all ages. Registration is necessary and audience members will get the Zoom link before the program.

In addition to the magic show, the Dexter District Library’s “Tails and Tales” Summer Reading Program will let readers of all ages explore the animal kingdom. Kids ages 12 and under can register for the Reading Club or the Read-To-Me Club if they’re not yet reading on their own. Teens and Tweens can participate in the Teen Read program. Adults can join their own reading group as well. Registration for all the Summer Reading Programs will begin Monday, June 21. You’ll also be able to register throughout the summer.

The Summer Reading Program will wrap up on Friday, August 6 at 11am with Storyteller Mat Emerick as Professor Snoopenheimer. Together, you’ll snoop out “Kooky Kryptids!” What’s a “kryptid, you ask? Well, it’s a misspelling of “cryptid” which is an animal or creature that is reported but not proven to exist, such as BigFoot. Children of all ages are welcome, but please register for the event beforehand.

Everyone who finishes the Summer Reading Program will be able to pick up a goody bag of coupons, snacks, and other surprises from August 2 until school begins. Kids, Tweens, and teens who finish Beanstack challenges or who submit complete records by August 17 will also enter into a final drawing for a chance to win some other amazing prizes. The Final Prize Drawing will be on Wednesday, August 18. Everyone is welcome to sign up or participate in any of Dexter District Library’s summer events.

The library will be presenting a summer calendar of mostly virtual events for everyone. Page Turner Adventures is a 6-week story safari. This will include virtual shows, crafts, recipes, games, creature features, author visits, and more! The Dexter District Library will also partner with local organizations, such as the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, Breathe Yoga Studio, and Dexter Creamery. Come check out book clubs, Take & Make Craft bags, and many other activities for the whole family. All upcoming events can be viewed on their website.

Library patrons can also enjoy Summer Virtual Story Times. These virtual events will begin Tuesday, June 22, and will run through August 10. Summer Story Times are livestreamed via the Dexter District Library Facebook page on Tuesdays at 10:30am. This program is for readers ages 5 and under, but everyone is welcome to join. Each session will last about 30 minutes. Summer Story Times for children include picture, pop-up, and interactive books, flannel board stories, songs, puppets, fingerplays, crafts, and other activities that encourage a love of reading for children. These events are free and open to the public, no registration is necessary.
