Non-Scary Halloween Fun for Families

Sometimes horror, ghosts and haunted houses can be too scary for the certain people and little ones. Therefore, we decided to concentrate on the non-scary Halloween events available in the area this season.

Oct. 22

Halloween Storytime

10:15-10:45 a.m.

Stories will be told that are advertised as “not-so-spooky” along with rhymes, songs, and even a fun parade through the library. Costumes are allowed.

Saline District Library. 555 N. Maple Rd, Saline.

Trick or Treat on the River

12-4 p.m.

$22 per boat

Meet at the Gallup Canoe Livery. Participants can wear costumes and paddle around while others in costume hand out treats and candy. It is recommended to bring a treat bag.

Oct. 26

Olson Dog Park “Howl-A-Ween” Dog Park

4-6 p.m.

The Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Department is throwing a dog party for furry friends and those who adore them. Dogs can be dressed up in costumes. There will be a photo booth, dog treats, local vendor booths and a dog costume contest. Dogs need to be licensed and have a dog park permit.

Oct. 27

Family Night Out—Halloween!

 6:15-8:30 p.m.

$25 for ages 4 and up

Want to entertain your children and have a nice dinner? The Venue is hosting an event where children can enjoy movies, crafts and food at their Market and Cafe while the parents enjoy a nice dinner and drinks in the dining room. Dinner for the parent is a separate cost and reservations should be made concurrently for the parent.

Animal Haunts

Time 6:00 to 9:00 p.m

Cost: $10

Leslie Science Center hosts their annual Halloween event which is specified to be “a candy-free, non-spooky event for families.” Participants encounter wildlife at the critter house, engage in science experiments and create crafts. Costumes are allowed, but nothing too scary. Please note that the Black Pond hike trail is neither wheelchair accessible nor stroller-friendly.

Oct. 29

Halloween Downtown Ann Arbor Trick or Treat

11:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Free

Costumed children and kids are instructed to first arrive at Main and William for the start of the parade that is directed by the Ann Arbor District Library. Trick or treating will be arranged for those wearing costumes. Businesses and stores that are participating will be identified with orange and black balloons in front. The event is scheduled to happen no matter what the weather, so dress accordingly.

Halloween Puppet Show!

10:30-11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

Cost: Free

Join AADL storytellers for a fun Halloween-themed show with stories, puppets, songs, and rhymes! Wear your costumes and sample treats afterward. There are two shows with the second event at 11:30 a.m. These replace the normal 11 o’clock storytime on Tuesdays at the Downtown Branch. The show will be in the first-floor lobby. For preschool-Grade 3.
