The Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Department is sad to announce the cancelation of outdoor pool openings and summer day camps for the Summer 2020 season.
Lots of various research was considered when coming to this conclusion. Research throughout the industry, speaking with other park and camp professionals, different webinars, and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (and other professional organizations) were taken into account when the decision to cancel the pool openings and day camps was made. Because of how each of these programs run, it would be extremely difficult — if not impossible — to maintain a sanitized environment for everyone taking part in these outdoor, leisure activities.Β
βAfter carefully evaluating the available information, it became apparent that it is not feasible to open pools or operate day camps within the proposed guidelines while assuring the health and well-being of our visitors, staff and the broader community,β said City Parks and Recreation Manager Colin Smith.Β
Any outdoor pool registrations and day camp activities previously purchased will be fully refunded. So anyone who has already purchased pool passes and signed up for day camps will be able to get their money back.Β
The Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Department is looking for new opportunities to connect with the community during these difficult times, including virtually or in person when possible, throughout the summer.Β
