This year’s Fourth of July parade in Ypsilanti, by the American Legion – Post 282 of Ypsilanti in partnership with Ypsi Parade, will be changing its format this year to ensure the safety of the community.
Although the State has lifted the outdoor restrictions as of June 1, the American Legion and Ypsi Parade, have announced that they will not be throwing an in-person parade this year. Although the restrictions were lifted, there was not enough time to plan an in-person parade. However, they do want to provide an event to the community that lives up to the 92-year-old tradition.
This year, the parade will be coming “Live from the Legion” through the American Legion’s Facebook page. The virtual parade will start at 11am through the Facebook page and begin with a flag ceremony and presentation.
At Noon, the American Legion will be open for the public to enjoy. The legion will be offering free hotdogs, chips, and beverages outside, and inside there will be a full service bar.
Games, prizes, and performers for families to enjoy are expected to be present at the American Legion. There will also be a visit from the Ypsilanti Fire Department and the National Guard will bring out trucks and tanks for kids to check out.
All local vendors and past parade participants will be welcome to take part in the event.
The American Legion – Post 282 of Ypsilanti and Ypsi Parade are hoping to return to the traditional parade format in 2022.
