American Family Care (AFC) recently opened a state-of-the-art facility at the intersection Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Oak Valley Drive. Since it’s launch on April 5, they have already treated over 200 patients.
What are urgent care centers?
Urgent care centers play a crucial role in the healthcare system. Too often there is a long wait to get into your primary care doctor. And the emergency room is, of course, for emergencies.
So, what are you supposed to do if you have a non-emergent but still pressing need to see a doctor quickly? That’s where urgent care centers step in to bridge the gap.
Urgent care centers, also known as same-day clinics, offer immediate medical services for non-emergency acute or chronic illness or injury. Some examples that might necessitate a visit include:
- Fever without a rash.
- Vomiting or persistent diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Wheezing or shortness of breath
- Dehydration
- Moderate flu-like symptoms
- Sprains and strains
- Small cuts that may require stitches
- Urinary tract infections

Abhi Srivastava, AFC business development manager, said “[We] picked West Ann Arbor based on the need in the community. We have seen this area grow over the last 20 years and realized the growing need for access to good quality, timely health care.”
While this location marks AFC’s fourth in Michigan, it’s their first in the southeast region of the state. It’s important to note that each AFC facility operates independently under local ownership.
What sets this AFC location apart from traditional urgent care centers is their extensive range of services.
In addition to urgent care, they offer primary care, flu shots and other vaccinations, COVID testing, telecare and more. With on-site labs, they can provide faster and more cost-effective results. If your child’s primary physician is unavailable, AFC can conduct their annual physical for school.
Srivastava said that they are a “true one stop shop” with a civil surgeon, DOT certified provider and primary care physician on staff. To cater to the diversity community in the area, AFC’s office is staffed with professionals who can communicate in English, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, Hindi and Tamil.
“Above all we are proud of our caring staff that goes above and beyond every day as vouched for by our patient reviews on Google,” Srivastava said.
Despite being open for less than two months, AFC has received 5-star ratings from 40 reviewers. In today’s online-driven world, these glowing patient reviews speak volumes about the exceptional quality of their services.
