Seeing the ability

. January 8, 2013.

“We see their abilities, not disabilities,”said Marjorie Wright, conductor of Common Chords, a hand chime musical group that performs throughout Ann Arbor. What began from an idea of a retired band director grew into a beloved performance group. “We started with all kinds of instruments and made several changes to rhythm instruments and key boards. The hand chimes became the most ideal for our group,” said Wright. “We met with a music therapist from Monroe and hand chimes were the way to go,” she mentioned. Common Chords in comprised of nine members ages 17 and up. The group whose members have varying developmental issues, perform at area churches, conferences and festivals.
