Mental Health Resources for Children in the Ann Arbor Area

As children grow and navigate the world, they face many challenges. It has become more important than ever to support children’s mental health, but it can be difficult to know where to begin. We have gathered a list of the different mental health resources for children available in the Ann Arbor area. 

U-M Center for Child and Family 

U-M Center for Child and Family supports the whole family with mental health services available to children, adolescents and whole families. They provide clinical assessment and treatments for those who need individual support, while also offering free and low cost workshops on ADHD, learning disabilities, parental divorce and coping strategies.

Michigan Medicine Hospital Psychiatric Services 

Michigan Medicine Hospital Psychiatric Services offer immediate support through emergency 24/7 walk–in evaluations. They can provide psychiatric evaluation, recommend treatment, screen for hospitalization, and provide information about mental health referrals. While they do not provide long term care, they are able to transfer children for follow-up care if needed.

Regional Alliance for Healthy Schools

Regional Alliance for Healthy Schools specializes in ages 5-21 with a variety of services such as therapy for individuals, groups, and families. They also provide assessment for behavioral and mental health struggles. Notably, children are not required to be registered at schools within the Regional Alliance for Healthy Schools group to qualify for services.

Washtenaw County Community Mental Health

Washtenaw County Community Mental Health is a public mental health agency for Washtenaw County. They are available to care for the community regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay for services. Crisis services include “24/7 access to our mobile crisis team, 24/7 assessments–including suicide risk assessments–for those in crisis, 24/7 access to our observation and assessment center or crisis residential services for those who meet criteria, Crisis planning, stabilization and support services for individuals and families.” They can also provide long term care services or make referrals.

Ann Arbor Center For the Family  

Ann Arbor Center For the Family offers family, group and individual counseling. They seek to be “inclusive, equitable, and affirming of diverse individuals and families,” ensuring that everyone who seeks their care feels welcomed. Through their team of social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists, they are able to support children with testing and treatment.

Washtenaw Child Advocacy Center – Catholic Social Services  

Washtenaw Child Advocacy Center – Catholic Social Services provide support, testing and treatment for children who have experienced sexual abuse. Their services are widespread, including “forensic interviews, crisis counseling, community resource assistance, and referral services.”
