The Chelsea District Library (CDL) has announced that their 2021 online Summer Reading Program will begin on June 10. There will be reading challenges for every age, making reading a family activity this summer!
The theme for this year’s Summer Reading program is Reading Colors Your World. The CDL staff is encouraging readers to check out diverse books as they log reading hours and complete fun activities.Â
Adults, teens, and children can register for age-appropriate summer reading challenges. Then, you can read to earn badges and win prizes, including a book of your choice! You can also earn tickets for the Grand Prize Drawings of your choice. Extra tickets can be earned by completing activity badges that include virtual and safe, limited contact activities at home, in your neighborhood, and all-around Chelsea.
Those who register by 11:59pm on June 10 will be entered into the Registration Prize drawing. Prizes for each group include a water bottle and gift card to an awesome local store. Kids will get a gift card to Kitty Face, Teens will get a card to Secret Crisis Comics, and adults can win a gift card to USArtQuest.
As of May 15, patrons could pre-register. However, the books and activities logged won’t start counting until June 10. You can create one account for the family then add individual readers under the same umbrella.Â
The program will also use Beanstack again. If you used it last summer or over the winter, you can continue to use the account by logging in and selecting the 2021 Summer Reading Challenge to register.
Grand prizes for this year include a variety of things. Youth grand prizes include an Aberdeen Bike gift card, a Fairy Garden kit, a family membership to Greenfield Village, and more. For teens, a few of the prizes include a Target gift card, a Dungeons and Dragons prize pack, a musical instrument kit, and more. Adults have a chance to win a $50 gift card to a local Chelsea business and other awesome things. After July 21, you’ll be able to catch the announcement of the grand prize winners.
