Creative leadership

. June 26, 2013.

If a community wants children to get involved in extracurricular activities, good leadership must inspire them to do so. That is exactly what the educational nonprofit 826 Michigan aims to accomplish. The organization, which provides free creative writing workshops to area children, has recently announced that poet and educator Catherine Calabro will join the staff as the program coordinator. Calabro, who has volunteered for the organization since 2008, said she enjoys the energy of the students and volunteers. But, there is always room for progress. “We are hoping to do a lot more to get parents and organizations involved in the programs we are doing,” she said. Tutoring, workshops, and fi eld trips are offered at the center. Children also have the opportunity to get work published in the quarterly publication or in a professionally bound book, which the center puts out twice a year. For more information, call 734-761-3463 or visit
