Art has a powerful influence – and for the new C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital set to open this November, art has a healing touch. The Hospitals have partnered with the University of Michigan’s Museum of Art to feature works by Michigan artists. This museum-quality collection has been funded entirely through private donations and showcases 241 pieces from 50 artists, of whom 31 were educated, born in or live in Michigan. “Art has always been a large part of the culture at Mott,” says Jan Brandon, co-chair of the Grand Opening Committee for the Hospitals. “Not only the artwork you see inside the building, but art therapy plays a role in healing and is made available through Child and Family Life programs. We have intuitively known the benefits of art for years.”
