Fans know Elephant Ears is the place to find fun clothes and hip gear for the younger set. Now, there’s even more to love, literally. The children’s store’s recent relocation within
Kerrytown Market & Shops has allowed for an expansion that’s “nearly quadruple the space” according to owner, Matt Cyrulnik. The move allows them to increase their selection of clothes, shoes, stroller lines, and kids’ furniture.

After waiting years for another space to open up in Kerrytown, the moment fi nally came. Cyrulnik says, “We’re dedicated to Kerrytown and dedicated to being shops. We enjoy the idea of urban living and thriving.”

Now a two-story area, the downstairs of Elephant Ears houses a full line of vibrant, comfortable clothing and accessories for children 0 to pre-teen, and shoes such as Keen sandals. The store includes a section dedicated to pre-teens size 7-16. In the fall, they will begin selling clothes “up to size 20 and will have UGGs.” Upstairs, customers can fi nd more great gear including strollers and car seats.

Elephant Ears strives to provide a local alternative to national retailers, offering a variety of Michigan-made products. The store sells “all the items new and expecting parents would find at a chain store: bottles, strollers, breast pumps and more,” says Cyrulnik. Furniture items such as rockers, gliders, cribs and beds are also available. They have or are working to provide “everything that you would go register for at a larger department store.” Parents can even create and manage gift registries online.

Cyrulnik adds that what sets Elephant Ears apart is a unique “one-on-one experience with somebody who is knowledgeable.” The shop can also “match or beat prices” that customers might find online or at another mass-market stores, and they accept competitor’s coupons.

The grand re-opening of Elephant Ears is expected mid- August. Upcoming events include weekly and monthly kids’ concerts, classes, puppet shows and book readings. Cyrulnik says, “We’ll always have events for families in town. They can just walk right in, and classes will be free to the public.”
