Two beloved local businesses have joined forces to give your family a great destination for fun. Beloved Michigan institution Rider's Hobby Shop has long been a mecca for lovers of model railroading, scale model building, radio-controlled vehicles and model rocketry. But the state's economic woes had hit the chain hard, as customers' hobby budgets dwindled. By this year, a company that once had franchises in six states had shrunk to only three locations. But a chance meeting between owner Brent Martin and Hans Masing, owner of Ann Arbor's Tree Town Toys, led to a bold new strategy. The two agreed to pool their resources to counter rising rents, sharing Tree Town's Plymouth Road location. Since 2006, Tree Town has offered unique specialty toys, redwood and cedar play equipment, and a wide array of infant and childcare products. With a fun and friendly atmosphere, the combined store has something for the whole family.
