You don’t have to look far to find a plethora of music events. A special treat during the holiday season are winter concerts performed by high school music students. Local school communities are proud of their music programs, and the diversity of styles shine during concert season.
Music performance at the heart of community holiday spirit
Band Director Jason Smith notes this concert season is a 10-year anniversary for Skyline High School, and says he is, “really excited for the winter band concert, the kids have been working hard and we’re looking forward to a great year!”
Tyler, a sophomore student in Skyline’s Concert and Marching Bands, plays alto and baritone saxophone and says he enjoys playing two different instruments in the band performances. Skyline’s winter band concert will feature the symphony and concert bands and will be the first chance this season for students to play without marching.
The holiday season is also a wonderful time for singing! “One of the best parts of the holiday choir concerts,” says Skyline choir parent Dan Noble, “is the invitation for choir alumni to come up on stage and sing along.” This is a tradition for many area schools.
December is abundant with opportunities to support school concerts, and maybe sing along, too! Performances are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
