It’s not too late for a summer road trip! Of the Top 100 Places to Boat & Fish in the nation compiled by the Take Me Fishing camaign, four of them are right here in Michigan. So pack up the car, the family and the camping gear for a perfect end to the summer before kids go back to school!

Holly Recreation Area in Holly, MI: Holly Recreation Area is a skip and a hop from Ann Arbor with about an hour drive. Families can escape the buzz of the city and catch fish species such as largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, northern pike, sunfish, catfish and more from shore or by boat. Add to that a disc golf course, plenty of camping space and trails, a beach, and Explorer Ranger Programs.

Cedar River State Harbor, Cedar River, MI: Fishing in the upper peninsula of Michigan is abundant, but if you are looking for a special place to cast a line, try Cedar River State Harbor. Anglers who visit here have the opportunity to catch largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, sucker, and sunfish.

Dodge #4 State Park, Waterford, MI: A sandy beach and a one-mile shoreline on Cass Lake makes Dodge #4 State Park an excellent location for summer and winter activities such as fishing. Anglers catch largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, northern pike, walleye, sunfish, catfish and carp in the waters of Cass Lake.

Mitchell State Park, Cadillac, MI: Mitchell State Park is a popular camping, fishing and boating destination. The park is situated between Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac and provides an excellent opportunity for fishing. Their numerous fishing programs will take participants far beyond amateur. Bait stores and boat rentals are available on the grounds. Free Fishing Weekends are popular at this park which give kids a chance to test out their skills.
