Gina Harrison Photography, which opened in 2008, offers the community a unique photography perspective. Harrison specializes in photographing mothers-to-be, newborns, children, families, high school seniors and weddings. “I am relaxed and try to capture the real personality. I enjoy… all types of photography, but realized my favorite type is portraits,” says Harrison, “Not the posed, stuffy portraits we’ve all seen in the past— but real life, real emotion that conveys a story.” Most of Harrison’s work is on location. “Whatever they’re into, we try to capture it. About 99 percent of the photos we take are outdoors.”
Harrison’s passion for photography was bloomed her newborn son was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. “That day I began taking photos with the purpose of recording his journey through two open heart surgeries,” Harrison explains. Although her son is doing well now, she is currently “working on my portfolio to join the non-profit organization, Now I Lay Down to Sleep.” At a family’s request, the organization sends a photographer to help document the precious moments a family shares with their sick newborn. “It’s close to my heart, having had a similar experience with my son,” says Harrison
“The thing that I enjoy most is using photography as a way to give back.” says Harrison.
