Maple Sugar Festival

Some kids like pancakes with their maple syrup (as opposed to the other way around). This spring, they can learn where the yummy stuff comes from at the Waterloo Recreation Area’s Maple Sugar Festival on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10 in Chelsea. First, families stop in at the Eddy Discovery Center to watch a quick movie about the syrup-making process, from tree to table. Then, they follow an expert into the woods to watch a tree tap and see how sap is collected and boiled down into the amber syrup. Maple products will be available for purchase. 10am-4pm. Free to members; $2/person, $5/family non-members. Michigan Recreation Passport required for entry to the Waterloo Recreation Area. Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center, 17030 Bush Rd., Chelsea. 734-475-3170. www.wnha.org.
