We all know how important family heirlooms are, but in today’s world, it may be challenging to devote the time and energy needed to preserve
them. In honor of National Preservation Month, the Ann Arbor District Library is helping you preserve your family’s treasures with two special
events. On Tuesday, May 4, Shannon Zachary, Head of the University of Michigan’s Department of Preservation and Conservation discusses
how to preserve your family books, documents and photos in the Multi-Purpose Room from 7 – 8:30 p.m. The illustrated talk includes factors that
cause items to deteriorate and demonstrations of simple steps to preserve materials. On Saturday, May 8, a related event takes place at The Gallery, Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library, 913 S. University Ann Arbor. Come to the walk-in preservation clinic for one-to-one consultations with experts about preserving books, papers, photos, sound recordings and digital images and files.
