Safety first

Babysitting is a great way tweens and teens to earn a little spending money.  But as any parent can testify, it is very easy for a sudden accident to occur, especially with very young children.  To help current and prospective babysitters operate in a safe environment, the Washtenaw County Chapter of the American Red Cross is offering summer babysitter training classes for those age 11 -15 on August 7, 11, 21, and 25, from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. each day.  Students will learn what to do in an emergency, hot to prevent accidents from happening, how to feed babies, how to play with children of all ages, and how to develop a babysitting business.  Attendees of the class also receive a compact emergency reference guide, a babysitter training handbook, and an interactive activity CD for use “in the field.”

The cost for the class is $50.  American Red Cross of Washtenaw County, 4624 Packard Rd., Ann Arbor.  For more information or to register, call 734-971-5300 or visit
