Owner Zaini Lateef left her career in finance when her oldest child started kindergarten. “I wanted to bond with my kids and learn about the school atmosphere,” she says. When the kids got older and more independent, her son is 10 and her daughter is 9, she stopped going to school as much. Lateef used her free time to host fitness classes for women in her community. “I brought in a licensed Zumba instructor and received positive feedback,” she says.
After discussing ideas with her husband, she decided to turn her hobby into a business. Not long after Peachy Fitness opened, Lateef got a nudge from her children. “My kids saw me going to these classes and started saying: Hey, mom, it’s not fair you’re going to these classes. You should start something for the kids so we can get involved,” she explains.
Lateef decided it was time Peachy Fitness offered youth sessions. Children ages 4-12 can dance and stretch their way to fitness with Zumba and Yoga. “The thing I love about Zumba is it’s based on international music,” says Lateef. “Kids hear a variety of music and they love it.” The classes combine the physical activity of Zumba with the calming benefits of Yoga. “Kids get stressed out too, not just adults. Activity, especially yoga, is going to help them calm down and relax,” she says.
