Unfortunately, children don’t come with a user guide or instruction booklet. While good memories and funny moments outweigh the tantrums and tears, parenting has its challenges. Michigan State University’s Washtenaw County Extension offers parenting courses on topics ranging from alternatives to anger to budgeting and single parenting. MSU’s Family Consumer Science programs offer advice, tips and even a listening ear to parents for little to no cost. Relax: Alternatives to Anger begins on Thursday, May 26, at the Washtenaw County LRC Building (4135 Washtenaw Ave.) from 6:30-8pm. For $20 per person/couple, parents can learn ways to ease stressful situations when tempers flare. In addition to the anger workshop, Budgeting 101 is offered at the Neighborhood Peace Center (1111 W. Maple Center) for free on Tuesday, May 10, from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Balance impulse purchases and bills while learning to avoid late fees.
