Chocolate Praline, Lemon Raspberry and Damson Plum are just three delectable cake flavors offered at Sweet Heather Anne. After nearly two years in an industrial location, the store known for ‘Lovely cakes made with local ingredients’ is moving to a Main Street store front as striking as one of their signature event cakes.
Owner and cake artist Heather Anne Leavitt says, “The change of location is a big step for us. We really wanted to be closer to town, and also be open more,” allowing the public to enjoy a variety of sweet selections.
A trained sculptor, Leavitt uses her artistic background to design memorable works of edible art. She developed her craft studying at the University of Michigan School of Art and Design, traveling abroad and working with local chefs. She even worked with a cake artist on a series of Food Network Challenges.
Operating the store alongside Business Manager Rachel Brandell Mayers and fellow cake artist Claudia Kimble, Leavitt says, “We’d like to get a feel of the area and see what customers want.” That will help shape the store’s selection and hours.
Sweet Heather Anne will continue to make custom cakes for bat and bar mitzvahs, weddings and milestone birthdays. They also offer simple cakes with buttercream icing, cookies and baked goods.
