Write a Love Sonnet to Mom or Create Art for Mom

A mother’s love is like no other. Why not write a love sonnet or create some beautiful art for your mother? A love sonnet has 14 lines. The rhyme scheme of the first quatrain can end like ABAB. The second quatrain uses different words in its rhyme pattern like CDCD, still alternating. The third quatrain needs yet different rhyming words in its scheme such as EFEF. Now you have 4 times 3 lines that equal 12. So you need the final two lines, called a couplet, where the final ending words rhyme, such as GG.

Here is a sample with a poem I wrote for my mother, but it could really be a gift to all mothers.

Mother, you have shown us the meaning of love
With your patience and little ways and care
Peace is also your beautiful nature, like a dove
You strive always to be gentle and fair

When I think of angels and saints I think of you
You always know the most positive words to say
And your actions are always thoughtful in all you do
You practice what you preach and show me the way

I once called you mommy and still am so proud
All you have taught me throughout all my years
I want to tell you how much I love you out loud
You have been with me through joy and tears

Happy Mother’s Day today and every day
Thank you for your teachings and for showing us how to play
